David Lama, Hansjörg Auer and Jess Roskelley presumed dead in Canada

It is with great grief that we have received the news of the presumed deaths of David Lama, Hansjörg Auer and Jess Roskelley after attempting the route M16, a difficult climb up the Howse Peak (3300m) in the Canadian Rockies. This route has only been climbed once before, in the year of 2000.

Our condolences from the Norwegian Alpine Club goes to the families of all the three well-known climbers. The father of Jess, John Roskelley, has been a true inspiration for many Norwegian climbers in the 60s and 70s, and many of the members of the Norwegian Alpine Club send their condolences.

It is a reminder of the margins in alpinism, yet we understand why they wanted to be there.

Again; our condolences from all the members in the Norwegian Alpine Club goes to the families and friends of David Lama, Hansjörg Auer and Jess Roskelley.
